The Government is processing the second round of Rs. 5000 financial assistance for construction workers and this time the workers need to register themselves online.

Delhi Government has launched an online registration portal for the construction workers to register themselves amid the coronavirus induced lockdown situation.

Delhi Development Minister Gopal Rai has launched a website where all the construction workers can get themselves registered as well as apply for the renewal of their old registrations. Earlier this registration used to take place at the registration counter, which is not possible amidst this pandemic situation. In Delhi itself, there is a large number of people working as construction workers. Around 40,000 workers are already registered with the Construction Worker’s Welfare Board. However, Thaneshwar Adigaur (Secretary of the Union) told that there used to more than 3 lakh registered workers with the board of the national capital around 4 years ago and now it has dropped to only 40,000 because people do not renew their enrollment. Hence, the introduction of online registration to make the process easy and beneficial for everyone.

The registered ones have already received Rs. 5000 each in the previous month and this month as well all the workers will be provided with the same in the wake of the lockdown. The Delhi Asangathit Nirman Mazdoor Union welcomed the move keeping in view that many of the workers were not officially registered and couldn’t avail the financial benefits being provided due to the corona induced lockdown situation. This portal is now open and running through this link This process will go on for a total of 10 days i.e., till 25th May 2020.

The applicant first needs to register by filling an online form by filling out some details such as – name, address, contact details, date of birth, self-declaration, address proof, proof of birth and certificate of 90 days of work from the employer or the union. There are separate options for the renewals and new registrations. As soon as the details are filled, the person will receive an OTP on the registered mobile number. Then a date will be assigned to them to present themselves at a designated Centre to submit the original documents. The official verification of the documents will start after 25th May by the Labour Department. The department has been instructed to follow a strict social distancing norm by enforcing a token system to avoid crowds and fights. Hence, the person will get the labour card to avail all the facilities and financial assistance. The amount of Rs. 5000 will be deposited into the worker’s bank accounts.

Now the people who can register themselves as construction workers are – carpenters, worker grinders, construction site guards, people working in concrete mixers, crane operators, electricians, computer operators, masons, tiles stone filters, welders, coolies, etc.

Since, the number of applicants will be in huge numbers, the department offices need to take this process forward with the utmost efficiency to avoid over piling of the applications.
